2003-2004 Battle of the Books

Each year Alaska Librarians support a motivational reading
program in Alaska K-12 schools. The goals of the program are to encourage and
recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, increase
reading comprehension and promote academic excellence.
Librarians select books for grades Kindergarten through
High School. Students read books, discuss them, quiz each other on the contents
and then compete in teams to correctly answer questions in a quiz show format. There
are school, district and state level competitions.
