The SEARCH Program

The SEARCH Program is for middle school students who have failed or are currently failing 7th or 8th grade.  This program provides a placement for students who need help with academics, behavior and motivation for attending school.  SEARCH is a small school where students receive individual attention and adhere to the strict rules about academics, attendance and behavior.

SEARCH student enrollment is limited to 75 students, coming from all the middle schools in the Anchorage School District.  Students are referred to SEARCH by their regular school counselor or principal.  Each student applicant and a parent/guardian have an in-take interview with a member of the SEARCH staff, who explains the rules and expectations of the program.

SEARCH divides the school day into eight class periods that are 35 minutes in length.  7th and 8th grade students are mixed together into four homeroom groups.  All students take Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Reading, P.E., and Math Skills.

The goal for students who attend SEARCH is to be able to go to high school having acquired basic academic skills, the ability to communicate appropriately with adults and authority figures, and social skills to become a good citizen.

SEARCH is not easier than a regular school.  It is a smaller environment that allows each student more individualized attention.  Teachers have high expectations, but really get to know their students, and are able to help them with their academic difficulties.  This dynamic creates student success!

If you are behind in school, and want and opportunity to get back on track, SEARCH may be for you!
