 Bicycle Safety Rules
Owning a bicycle is, in many ways, like
owning a car. There is a lot of responsibility and children need
to exercise caution for safety of others as well as their own
safety.
Please follow these bicycle rules at
all times:
Be familiar with laws (Anchorage Municipal
Code Section 9.38.010) and safety rules for bicycle operation
and practice them at all times.
Anchorage Municipal code
9.38.010 requires that bicycle helmets be worn by any person
fifteen years of age or younger.
Upon entering the school grounds walk
your bicycle directly to the racks in front of the school.
Bicycles must be equipped with locks to
prevent theft or unauthorized borrowing.
To prevent accidents or other problems,
bicycles will not be ridden on the playground areas from 1/2
hour before school to 1/2 hour after school activities.
Equip bicycles and riders with reflective
devices.
Do not leave bicycles overnight or on
weekends - past history indicates these are subject to vandalism
or theft.
Bicycle helmets are required for all bicycle
field trips. Due to aspects of Alaska State Law and Safety, elementary
students are not to drive motorized vehicles to school at any
time.
District directive bans the use of SKATE
BOARDS, ROLLER SKATES and ROLLER BLADES on the school
grounds due to inherent safety problems.
