Family Math and Science Night

On the night of Thursday, January 30th, a marvelous event occurred at Chester Valley, which may well steer the lives of many of the schools aspiring scientists. What was the event? Were there guest speakers and scientists? Were there crazy experiments in which to participate? Tell me there was pizza...

Yes, the evening was a chance for students and parents alike to learn about the fundamental building blocks of the universe. In some cases, this was quite literal.

And so the evening progressed. Good folks, good food and good science. Not so much weird science-- no ice filled halls or catchy theme songs, but all the same it had a certain Hollywood flair.

How can one factor in all of the math that was learned? It is a simple equation, really. First we take the potential energy of a room full of curious kids. Second, we deviate from the normal class room setting by creating a spontaneous environment. Third, we add glowing pickles and goo variables. Finally, we multiply by pie-- pizza pie.

...And then there was the goo. Yes, that ever-so-gelatinous liquidey gell-like-blob of... of... Really, though, what is that stuff?

As the night progressed, one important thing became abundantly clear: Learning science and math can be fun.

... and learning science means learning about the world around you.

   Pizza! Pizza! Pizza... never hurts!

But of course, none of this would have been if not for the incredible work of volunteers. Volunteers who set up, took down and performed every other assorted task in between. Thank you for your help and hard work.

Of all of these wonderful volunteers, Chester Valley would like to offer an extra special thank you to Mrs. T. Wilson and Ms. Ewing; without their planning and efforts the event could never have happened. Awesome work, ya'll.

Also, Chester Valley Elementary would like to offer a special thanks to Great Alaska Pizza Company and Applebee's for donating food to the cause. We greatly appreciate your generosity.
