Battle of the Books

BARK or Be a Reading Kid is one of Chester Valley's long running recreational reading programs. It encourages children to read for pleasure and was designed by parents and staff to motivate all the students. BARK readers add on to the accumulations of hours earned in previous years at Chester Valley. Please help your child by encouraging reading time at home, reading aloud to them, and signing their blue BARK cards.

Accelerated Reader books are books within the regular collection. After reading the Accelerated Reader Book which is marked by a star on the spine, a child may test his knowledge by taking an accelerated reader test. Points are accumulated based on which books are read, and how many questions are answered correctly. A list of Accelerated Reader book tests is available in the library.

Young Readers Choice is a northwest regional program that was established in 1940 to promote reading for pleasure. Librarians, teachers, and others nominate books that have been published within the last three years. Students who read at least two of the nominated books are eligible to vote in the Young Readers Choice election. The Youth Division choice is a book for grades 4 to 8. Click below to find a list of this year's award winners, and next year's nominees.
