Chugach Optional is an open concept school serving families with students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. The instructional approach is based on the assumption that children are naturally curious and want to learn. The program features hands-on activities, inquiry learning, frequent opportunities for student choice within developmental parameters. The program is designed to support student responsibility and self-evaluation. We have found that the emotional and physical growth of children must accompany their academic growth. Parents are an integral part of the school community and parents are expected to participate in the life of the school.
