Chugach Optional - Early Release

Program tours are required and scheduled prior to the Spring Lottery to allow prospective parents the opportunity to see the program at work. Our principal, Anne Salzer will present an introduction to the program and conduct a tour of the building. The tours are intended to provide adults with an opportunity to determine if the program will suit their family's needs; childcare is not provided. It is not necessary to sign up for a tour, but please report to the office prior to the tour. If you are unable to attend the required tour at these times, please contact the office to make personal arrangements.

Chugach Optional Elementary is not a neighborhood school, but rather an alternative program within the Anchorage School District. Students attending our school come from all over Anchorage. Students are accepted into our school by means of a lottery system to provide an equal opportunity to all students and to provide grade level and gender balance.

Entering Kindergarten students must be 5 on or before September 1, 2008

Parents with children already attending Chugach MUST ENTER A SIBLING IN THE LOTTERY in order to be considered for placement.

The lottery process establishes your child's placement on a waiting list. Interest in remaining on the waiting list must be acknowledged annually. Your child will be dropped from the waiting list when:

he/she enters the Chugach Optional program,
you withdraw your child's name,
you decline an opening for your child,
you do not notify the school with in a year of your intent to keep your child on the waiting list.

The drawing for the Early lottery for the 2008/2009 school year is March 21, 2008

When an opening is offered, we will arrange a classroom visit and conference with the parent and child.
