  • All documents to be published on the Chugach Optional server must be edited and approved by a referring teacher prior to submitting materials for publication to the web master.

  • Students and staff should collaborate in the planning, design and preparation of materials for publication.

  • Students should concentrate on submitting meaningful content that contributes to the activities, student work, special projects, or aspects of our learning community at Chugach Optional

  1. All work published on the Chugach Optional WWW server must be edited for spelling and grammar by a sponsoring teacher.

  2. Documents may not include a student's phone number, street address or P.O. Box address, personal photos or personal email address.

  5. Documents must conform to Chugach Optional school policies and established school guidelines.

Submitting Materials for Publication:

All materials to be posted to the Chugach Optional WWW server will be submitted to the designated "Webmaster" at Chugach Optional who will post the material directly to the Chugach Optional WWW server. Only the "Webmaster" will have direct access/security to the school's WWW server.

Student Home Pages (Role & Responsibilities):

Students may compose and submit their own home pages directly related to their school projects and work. This is a great opportunity for individual students or teams of students to showcase displays of their abilities and accomplishments.

It is the desire of Chugach Optional Elementary School to facilitate Internet publication of exemplary student work and personal student portfolios. The following guidelines should be followed by all students:

  • Student web pages should contain their original work: content, writing, artwork, photography (etc.) should all be constructed by the student.

  • Student web pages should avoid any/all links to game and entertainment sites on the World Wide Web/Internet.

  • Student web pages should be reflective of the student's academic interests by pointing to academic work, accomplishments or cultural resources.

  • Student publications may not contain any copyrighted material. This would be graphics (gif & jpg files) taken from commercial or entertainment web pages such as a sports sites (e.g. NBA, ESPN, etc.). These graphics may not be included on a student's page unless they have obtained specific written permission to do so from the copyright holder.

  • Student work may not be published on the World Wide Web without written permission from parents or guardians. Please refer to Chugach Optional's parental permission form for web publication. This may be obtained from any of the teachers or administrators in the school.

  • Student pages must be approved for publication by the supervising teacher before they can be published. The materials will be reviewed for content, spelling and grammar to insure that it adheres to the same standards as all other academic work.

  • Student web pages should not take overly long to load. If a page takes longer than about 30 seconds to download over a 28.8 modem connection, then the page is too long and should be broken up into separate pages or some of the graphics contained within the pages should be eliminated

  • It is the role and responsibility of the Principal to insure that the content of Chugach Optional's Home Page is appropriate and within the school policy and guidelines for student publications.

Chugach Optional Standards for designing HTML / WWW documents:

In order to create a consistent style for our Web site that looks good and is easy to read, the following basic guidelines need to be followed when creating web pages:

  1. All Web pages should have the same background in order to make our site feel like a cohesive whole. This is currently a graphic file of our logo.

  2. A standard banner should be placed at the top of every Web page which will identify us. This will consist of a graphic on each side with our name and location in the middle.

  3. A standard footer should be placed at the bottom of every Web page that contains navigational links to the main Web pages on our Web site, as well as Email links to the Webmaster and the author (or teacher), the date the document was last modified and a link to the Chugach Copyright Web page.

  4. All HTML file names should be in lower case with no spaces. File names should contain only letters, numbers, underscores, or periods. All HTML files should end in .html or .htm.

  5. All graphic files should be in the GIF or JPEG format. They should follow the same conventions as HTML file names and should end in .gif or .jpg. Remember that PICT is a "MacIntosh Image Format" and will not work on web pages.
