GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Document—one inch margins all sides
  2. Center the words Works Cited at the top of the citation page.  (See last page as sample.)
  3. Double space everything.
  4. Use 12-point type, Times New Roman, for all including titles.
  5. Alphabetize all Works Cited entries by first word.
  6. Do not use the underlined headings used on this sample sheet (such as Book Generic or CD-Rom); these headings are provided to help you find the appropriate form.
  7. The second line of each entry in the works cited list must be indented one-half inch—hanging indent.
  8. Pay attention to punctuation, spacing, underlining, and italics in the Works Cited list.  If you do not have access to italic type, you must underline the parts of the citation that would otherwise be in italics.  Also, if it is underlined in the citation, you may replace the underlining with italics.
  9. Cross-reference all information cited from the Internet with at one print source or two non-linked Internet sources because inaccurate information is prevalent on the internet and that information can be changed easily. (Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source.)
  10. If any information is unavailable (such as author name) begin with the next requirement.  When there is an author in any citation, be sure to include the name (in proper form) as the first part of the citation.
