WELCOME TO THE MUSICAL WORLD
AT CREEKSIDE PARK
MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
MUSIC CONSISTS OF THE CARL ORFF STYLE OF INCORPORATING SPEECH,
SINGING, THE USE OF BARRED INSTRUMENTS , NON-PITCH PERCUSSION,
MOVEMENT AND DRAMA.
PRIMARY GRADES CONCENTRATE ON STEADY
BEAT, AND SIMPLE RHYTHM PATTERNS, PLAYED ON VARIOUS INSTRUMENTS
AND BODY PERCUSSION.SPEECH PATTERNS FROM NURSERY RHYMES, AND
SO MI SONGS ARE ALSO APART OF THE MUSIC CURRICULUM,SPATIAL AWARENESS
AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT ARE ALSO AND IMPORTANT PART OF THE WHOLE
IN MUSIC CLASS INSTRUCTION. AT GRADE THREE, RECORDERS ARE INTRODUCED,
TO BEGIN A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF NOTE READING AND GENERAL
MUSICAL ABILITY.
IN GRADES FOUR THROUGH SIX STUDENTS
ARE GIVEN MORE COMPLEX COMBINATIONS OF SPEECH, SINGING, BARRED
INSTRUMENT ARRANGEMENTS, NON-PITCH PERCUSSION RHYTHM PATTERNS,
AND CHALLENGED WITH CREATING THEIR OWN MOVEMENT SEQUENCES. DRAMA
IS ONE AREA I HOPE TO DEVOTE MORE TIME TO IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
EACH STUDENT AT CREEKSIDE PARK
K-5 RECEIVES 1 HOUR OF MUSIC EDUCATION PER WEEK, WITH THE 6TH
GRADERS RECEIVING 30 MINUTES OF CLASSROOM MUSIC EDUCATION. THE
DISTRICT PROVIDES BAND AND ORCHESTRA TO CREEKSIDE PARK 6TH GRADE
3 DAYS A WEEK.
