Adapted Physical Education
Adapted Physical Education promotes
physical fitness motor skills, and lifetime sports through the
use of modified or adapted teaching techniques, curriculum or
equipment according to specific developmental or disability characteristics
of the special education student.
Individual appraisal may include assessment
of the student's ability to participate and the specific characteristics
effecting the physical, social, cognitive, and behavioral aspects
of program participation. Emphasis is on participation and least
restrictive service delivery
Adapted Physical Education teachers
must have a degree in Physical Education and Special Education
or must have completed and additional program in adapted physical
education and must possess a certificate from Alaska Department
of Education
