HISTORY
Crossroads was formed in the 1970’s as a response by the Anchorage School District to address the specific needs of pregnant high school students. All students follow the ASD requirements, however. Maternity health and child development courses are required for out students. Crossroads is located at 3350 Commercial Drive, Suite 101, in the Success by Six building in Mountain View. Contact us at 742-2424.

ADMISSION POLICY
Students with verified pregnancy (a doctor’s not is required) may complete a referral with their school counselor. When the referral process is complete, students may schedule a conference with Ms. Begich Mauk. The program takes new students throughout the academic year until four weeks before the end of the first semester and up to the beginning of the third quarter. Students are encouraged to complete semesters at their home school for maximum credit opportunity.
PROGRAM HOURS
Students must attend their full schedule Monday through Friday. Crossroads is open 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM with additional hours as scheduled by staff for after school academic enrichment. Student’s attendance hours are from 8: 00 AM to 1 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 12:00PM on Friday.
TRANSPORTATION
If you use the city bus service, or provide your own transportation, you must determine the best times to use the service or drive yourself coincide with your allotted time for attendance.
ATTENDANCE POLICY/MATERNITY LEAVE
10% attendance is required at Crossroads. Students are allowed to miss five (5) school days for delivery. Students will be expected to keep on track with schoolwork during that time. You may save some of those days for some sleepless nights when the baby keeps up at night. A very large part of your ability to continue as a Crossroads student relies on your attendance.

CHILD CARE
Students may have their newborn babies, ages 0-6 months attend school with them. Babies must have current up-to-date immunizations if they are to be onsite. If your baby is turning 6 months at any time during a semester, you must have care arranged prior to the beginning of that semester. In other words, if your baby is turning 6 months old in January, you must have care arranged prior to registration for second semester. For safety reasons and to assist you with your educational process, cooperative child care will be initiated. Students, however, are the primary care givers for their babies while in attendance at Crossroads.
PARENTING TEEN POLICY
It is Crossroads policy that parenting teens be a positive example for all those in attendance at Crossroads, especially pregnant teens. Parenting teens are expected to follow and support the rules of the school, as are pregnant teens, but because the parenting teen is now a parent, added responsibilities are expected. Crossroads has a waiting list for parenting teens, not pregnant teens. If attendance or discipline concerns arise a student will be placed on a contract with their individual concerns listed as goals to work on in the up and coming quarter. If these are not met the parenting teen will be withdrawn from Crossroads.
CREDITS and GRADES
Crossroads High School utilizes a letter grade system. Course work is delivered by classroom instruction, packet, workbook, designated activities, workshop, mentoring, or other staff approved methods. Crossroads offers credit for student’s job work hours; for every 112.5 hrs. of documented work, students can receive .5 elective credit. 225 hours equals 1.0 elective credit. Dangling hours are kept for students who participate in approved activities that do not equal on-quarter credit.
STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTIONS

BEHAVIOR and ATTENDANCE INFRACTIONS
When a student chooses to break the rules, the principal is alerted and appropriate actions are initiated as needed. If the behaviors continue or are severe enough, a “Plan for Improvement” contract will be developed by the staff., the principal and the student. These contacts specifically describe the inappropriate conduct, present a plan of action, and consequences for failure to follow the contract. Contracts are in effect for a specific length of time. Failure to follow the collaboratively developed plan may result in a decision by the Principal for exclusion from Crossroads.
MEALS
The students at Crossroads are offered a free lunch everyday, provided by Children’s Lunch Box. Pregnant/breastfeeding mothers may not drink caffeinated products on school grounds. Clean up: clean up after yourselves. This is our home away from home- please treat it kindly!
TELEPHONE and OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES
The telephones at Crossroads are for school business ONLY. Students are not to use the school phone number for delivery of personal messages. If you have an emergency and need to use a school phone, talk to your teacher. Cell phones, and other electronic devices are not to be heard or seen at any time while in attendance at Crossroads. We need your full attention when you are here.
