WebCat Catalog for Anchorage School District libraries.  Enter DM as User ID for Dimond or ASD for entire district collection.

Anchorage Municipal Libraries includes the catalogs for AML as well as the UAA/APU Consortium Library and ARLIS.  A library card number allows access to Newsbank and Anchorage Daily News Archives.

Statewide Library Electronic Doorway Alaska’s Virtual Library and Digital Archives is the best collection of Alaska stuff around.  Easy to use, SLED has most of what a student or teacher might want in Alaska- and Anchorage-related sites, as well as general help.  Databases for Alaskans, Live Homework Help, Teen Express, News & Weather and dozens of other sites abound.

UAA/APU Consortium Library Joint catalog with Anchorage Municipal Libraries, this site gives more information about the Consortium Library, branch access, journals, other resources unique to the campus site.

ARLIS Alaska Resources Library & Information Services was formed in 1997 from nine smaller resources libraries that wanted to survive.  The result was a premier and award-winning information source of Alaska natural and cultural resources.  ARLIS is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in the Consortium Library building.  Its catalog is jointly available with Anchorage Municipal Libraries and UAA/APU Consortium catalogs.  ARLIS issues a library card, but AML and UAA/APU cards will work quite well.

American Library Association ALA is the biggest professional library group of all.  Includes numerous sub-groups, sub-sets, lists, help, sales, advice.

Alaska Library Association AkLA is the statewide professional library association.

Alaska Association of School Librarians AkASL, state professional organization for school librarians, sponsors the Battle of the Books in Alaska, raises funds for scholarships for future librarians, and provides travel grants to statewide conferences.

Kids Click! An excellent selection of web sites for kids up and down the age range.  An intriguing feature is an alternate listing (by click) of the same sites by Dewey numbers, which will endear the site to librarians, especially in teaching Dewey classification.

Cool Books for Tough Guys Though ten-plus years old, this list and accompanying article are still valuable for ideas about books to read and for librarians and teachers to select.

Outstanding Science Trade Books for Students K-12 National Science Teachers Assn.  These annual lists are a fine guide to good science stuff to read.  Helpful for kids, parents, teachers, librarians.

Notable Trade Books for Young People National Council for Social Studies creates annual lists of good reading in social studies.  Helpful for kids, parents, teachers, librarians.

Reading Rants Out of the Ordinary Teen Booklists—the web subtitle says it.  YA books categorized and reviewed by theme (e.g. Graphic Fantastic, Nail Biters, Gods & Monsters, Coolest Classics, Gen-X Files, Top Ten, etc.). A personal web site well worth perusing. 

British Library The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom—one of the great world libraries.  Has numerous resources—catalogues, unmatched collections, completely digitized classics (Shakespeare—all plays, Chaucer, Gutenberg Bible), and an online image collection available for use in low resolution mode for student works.  Many links to catalogues of other national libraries.
