Natalie Burnett, Principal
I am truly honored by my appointment as the principal at the new Eagle River High School. I am absolutely committed to leading our school with an attitude of gratitude, a hard work ethic, and a commitment to excellence. Together we will build a fine school that will complement the outstanding programs, schools, and people in our community.

Alaska has been my life-long home. My parents came to Alaska in 1967 via the United States Air Force and were stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base. I grew up in the Eagle River/Chugiak area and reaped the benefits of a quality education at Chugiak High School and the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Eagle River continues to be my home.

As I naturally gravitated to the world of education, learning has always been my passion. One of my greatest pleasures in life is reading a great book. I also enjoy appreciating the natural beauty around us by hiking and experiencing the great outdoors at home and abroad. I learn a great deal about life from others and the places they live. Reading, hiking, and traveling are great past times of mine, but serving a great meal to my family and friends is a simple pleasure in life.

I am eager to begin the process of creating an outstanding high school which promotes both academic and personal excellence. This task will be both challenging and rewarding. I look forward to working with each of you in order to develop a school that will leave a lasting legacy of excellence for many years to come.

Frank Reuter, Assistant Principal
I am very excited to be back at Eagle River for the 2009-2010 school year. This will be my second year working in the curriculum office and my twelfth year as an administrator with the district. In the previous eleven years I have had a considerable amount of experience in school activities, so when Ms. Burnett approached me about doing activities this year I was thrilled. Due to the smaller population at ERHS I will be able to work with the counselors and teachers, as well as the coaches and athletic programs.

It’s hard to believe fall is closing in on us and our wonderful summer has to end but football starts on July 27 th; CC running, flag football, and tennis begin on August 3; gymnastics, swimming, and volleyball start on August 10. Students in grades 10-12 must have a 2.0 GPA and have passed at least 5 classes to be eligible for sports. All freshmen are eligible at the beginning of ninth grade. Sign ups will be in the activities office and each sport has left information in the office if you have questions. Our first football game is against Houston High and will be Aug. 8 th, 2pm at CHS. Homecoming is Aug. 29, 2pm at AFS. Don’t forget we’ll be tailgating in the parking lot prior to the game.

Registration for classes will take place the week of August 3, with Sr.’s on Monday (8/3) Jr.’s Tuesday, Sophomores Wednesday and freshman on Thursday. If you are new to ERHS please contact the counseling office for an entry conference the week before registration if possible (7/27-7/31). Classes will begin on August 19. I wish everyone the best for the upcoming year and invite you to come in and meet with me in person if you have questions, concerns, and accolades regarding ERHS.

Vikki McConnell , Assistant Principal
I am thrilled to be the new ERHS Assistant Principal of Student/Activity Services! As an educator, I bring 22 years of experience, including 8 as an administrator at Dimond, West, Chugiak and Service High Schools. Originally from Washington State, I have spent half my life in the South Pacific and the other half in Alaska. With a B.S. in Animal Sciences, a M.Ed. in Administration, current work on a D.Ed. in Leadership, and as a 10-year resident of Eagle River, I feel I have much to offer and gain by being here at ERHS. I am deeply committed to promoting positive interactions between students and adults, and improving student academic performance, behavior and accountability. I am looking forward to meeting everyone this school year!
