What is Goldenview? Goldenview is a Middle School with over 800 7th and 8th graders. The school has 8 teams. The school mascot is the “Suns”. We have over 250 computers networked to aid students. Each student has a locker located in the vicinity of his/her team. Doors open at

daily. There are two separate 30-minute lunch sessions. The schedule and curriculum are essentially the same as all the other Anchorage School District Middle Schools. The main phone is

How can I keep up with all the different classes? Each student will be given a Goldenview Planner, which is an assignment-planning notebook, containing a week-at-a-glance calendar for students to keep track of their assignments from each class. The planner fits in any 3-ring binder and is to be filled out by the student each day. Assignments are taken home and checked off when completed.
How will I be notified of problems with grades? Parents are encouraged to stay involved with their child’s progress through e-mails or phone calls to his/her child’s teachers. Teachers may call parents at any time when significant school problems arise. Parents are always notified in writing with a Progress Report at the mid-quarter (5 weeks) and report cards at the end of the quarter.
Will there be a parent night?

Is everyone on a team? What are teams? Teams are usually a group of teachers that share the same students for their Core classes (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies). The students on a team have a common team name and attend their classes in the same physical area (pod). This gives an opportunity for students to identify with their classmates and teachers. Teachers share a common team planning period where they can coordinate activities, assignments and stay in close touch with student and parent issues.
Registration Questions:
Who can register? Any student who lives in the Goldenview attendance boundary.
What am I registering for? The official Goldenview Registration Form allows you to sign up for elective classes. There are 7 periods. Five classes (Lang. Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Phys. Ed.) are required and placement in those classes will be determined by enrollment in special programs at your current school or math placement (see Math Placement).
What is a Year-Long Elective? A Year-Long Elective is one elective class period for which you will choose a class. This is typically an elective such as Music or World Language.
Can electives be repeated? Yes, some quarter and semester classes like Art, Family Consumer Science, and Computers.
How are students placed in Math classes? Math placement is a three-step school district-wide process, which places students into a math class that will result in success. Placement is based on the results of: 1) math placement test score, 2) teacher recommendation, and 3) recent standardized testing information. Primarily, students can request a different math placement. All requests will be considered.
How are students placed on teams? Team placement is done randomly to ensure that students get the electives, specialized classes, and special programs for which they request or qualify.
When do I find out what my classes are? Student schedules, lockers, bus information, and school activities information will be given out at School Registration in August. Specific dates and times will be listed in the newspaper.
What if we can’t attend August Registration? Please call (348-8626) or send a letter telling the office you will be unable to attend that week so that your child’s schedule is held until you can come in.
What if there’s a problem with my classes? A request-for-change form can be completed during August Registration.
What is the Gifted program at Goldenview There are some teams that have students who qualify to take individual Gifted sections/classes in either Science or Language Arts. Those teams also have non-gifted classes. There are teams at each grade level that offer Gifted Science and Language Arts classes only for those students who qualify through district testing. These teams also have regular Science and Language Arts classes. All teams offer both math levels: Math 7 and Pre-Algebra for 7th graders, and Math 8 and Algebra for 8th graders.
