SUNSHINE SOURCEText Box: Education and the process of educating is a total integral contextual situation which includes students, teachers, parents, administration and environment. Jean

Dear Students, Parents, Colleagues, and Friends,

As the rejuvenating days of summer are drawing to a close and the 2008-2009 school year quickly approaches, preparations are underway to ensure students receive an educationally balanced program designed to meet academic, social, and emotional needs. You and your child will experience a rich stimulating environment filled with lifelong experiences. A dedicated staff and community committed to offering all students academically appropriate learning opportunities, as well as a nurturing, safe, caring environment, anxiously await your arrival. “As the great author Henry David Thoreau said, "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them." Goldenview Middle School is the quintessential program, offering the adolescent all the essential structures on which to build a highly successful foundation. We are exhilarated to offer you, the student, this excellent education as you pursue your dreams and aspirations of becoming leaders, outstanding citizens, scholars and inventors. As I write this letter the final touches for your middle school adventure are in full swing and include the following:

During the days of in-services, our staff will be engaged in data analysis of current test scores, educational practices and devoting their time to methodically outlining their lesson design for the year. Our curriculum is delivered through authentic relationships, through mistakes and through reflection and conversation.   As your child encounters challenges over the course of the year, be mindful of the larger potential lessons and give your child some solid advice. Allow them the independence to work through the solution and build their resiliency.

Another branch to our program is our electives and extracurricular activities. The exploratory opportunities in computers, art, music, World Language, careers, family consumer science, service learning, robotics, youth court, project citizen, along with a myriad of other well-established offerings are a critical component to middle school. Athletics span the entire scope of physical education, including intramural and interscholastic activities. Healthy Futures is embraced supporting a strong wellness attitude and practice. Artists find a home with opportunities, in drama, orchestra, band, jazz band, visual arts, and other performances. Field trips to in-state locations, other states, and countries occur each year, expanding student knowledge and abilities.

Of vital importance is our parental component. We encourage parents and guardians to participate in the education of their youngsters through PTSA, team volunteering, school meetings, and special events.  Yes, parents we want you here!!!! We need you, as a partner, encouraging your child with a serious attitude toward education. Volunteering is an opportunity to see us in action, see your child’s environment, and allows you to contribute your presence, expertise and involvement in your child’s educational and social pursuits. Joining the largest PTSA in the State, led by President, Mrs. Kristin Reed, is a way to meet other parents and become involved. If you haven’t signed up for one of the many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year, please do so at Registration, Open House or stop by the office. All we ask is please sign in at the office whenever you visit. If you can spare time, we would appreciate your helping on the first day by getting students to class, helping with locker problems, and just being there with a smile!
