President’s Message:

It truly was a privilege to meet all of the Students and Parents during Registration and at the PTSA sponsored Back to School Pizza Night. I welcome all of the Parents, Teachers and Students who have joined the Goldenview PTSA Membership and invite anyone else who would still like to join this wonderful organization to see the Membership form below. Your contributions both financial and through volunteer work help support many programs, grants and activities directed to benefit all our children’s educational needs at Goldenview. I encourage each of you to call or e-mail the Goldenview PTSA and see where your services could be put to good use. According to the National PTA ad council, “It’s a proven fact that when parents are involved; students have higher grades, more consistently completed homework, better attendance, and higher graduation rates.” Please join us as we try to make this possible for all the students at Goldenview.

PTSA Board Meeting:

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 6:00pm at the Goldenview Conference room. We will have meetings the second Tuesday of every month. We invite all PTSA members to attend. We will be discussing our goals for the year, fundraiser ideas (smart boards), Bear Fair, Concessions, Changing from a PTSA to a PTO, requested grants, Programs.

The Mission of PTSA:

* To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the school, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children

* To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and

* To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

Membership News:

You can still join PTSA for only $8.00. Our goal we set from our last meeting was to get at least 500 members for the year. From the last count, we were above 350. We encourage anyone and everyone to join us. The funds we receive help PTSA sponsor various activities, programs and grants. See below for a Membership form to fill out:

If your student did not fill out a Student Directory form, they are available in the office or by contacting the Directory Chair Dayle Sherba at dayle_sherba@ak.blm.gov. The cut off date to receive Directory Information will be September 22. Anyone interested in submitting artwork for the cover of the Directory, please contact the Art Teacher, Mrs. Brady for the deadline submission.

Memory Book News:

For those wanting to know when last year’s books are arriving, Josten’s said everyone should receive one in the mail by the end of August. For those who still need to order a memory Book, order forms are in the office and are now $35.00. Please make checks payable to Goldenview PTSA. Please pre-order, because we cannot guarantee we will have extra’s at the end of the year. Do not wait until it is too late. Contact Becky Saleeby for more information: bream@gci.net

Concessions Donations:

Parents if you signed up to donate food for the Bear Fair Concessions; please remember to have your donated item to the PTSA office at Goldenview by October 13. For more information or questions, please contact: Peggy Spencer at lspencer56@gci.net

Needed:

Any parent that can donate a new or used clean Refrigerator/Freezer for our School Store. Because of the new “Healthy Guidelines” from the ASD. We are selling items that will meet the ASD guidelines, such as: String cheese, yogurt, healthy frozen snacks etc… We need the refrigerator for the school store to keep these items cold.
