1.                    List the goals and objectives of what the students are expected to learn in class.

 

Ø       Students are expected to be familiar with the National Health Standards for Health

Ø       Students will study concepts in Health governing Mental/Social/Physical Health aspects

Ø       Students should engage in critical thinking and analysis about their present lifestyle practices and make considerations about the direction of their future.

Understanding/analyzing/interpreting how media influences Health behaviors and American culture.

Learn to make media to influence positive Health behaviors

 

Week 8 & 9:        Nutrition Basics

                                                Nutrition (chapter 9), Research nutrition concepts, Teen Health II

                                                Defining terms and concepts

                                                Analyzing food Nutrition Fact Labels

Investigating risk factors and mechanisms of high Sodium, sugar, saturated fat diets

Week 12 & 13:    Nervous system

                                                Anatomy & Physiology of Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems

Comprehend influence of Substance Abuse on nervous system

Chemical Dependency and Addiction defined

 

Week 14, 15, 16: Substance Abuse: Alcohol

                                    History of Alcohol, social trends physical ailments

                                                Chapter 14; research and concepts

Videos: The Truth About Alcohol, reality experience of alcohol use by teens

I use lecture with overhead, board notes, & media projection to introduce concrete topics, concepts, & lessons.

I use research methods to learn concrete facts.

I use small discussion groups to explore peer influence and leadership.

                                I use guided discovery methods to engage students in classroom discussion, seek the correct

 response.
