Electricity Unit

For this unit you will be working off a website.   You will be given time at school to work on the tasks.  However, if you do not finish, you may work from home to stay caught up.   You should work through the tasks in order, and check in with me when you have finished each day’s assignment, or when the directions tell you to get signed off for credit.

The website for this unit is:  http://iss.cet.edu/electricity/default.xml

Day 1

            1.         Bookmark this website on your home computer.

            2.         Take the pretest.  (When you create an account, the program will give you a login name.  Print the page with your login name, and give it to me).

            3.         Under “Background” Read Atoms and Electricity.  (For each of the “Background” sections you are to read and summarize the main ideas under each section.)

Example:   For the Background piece “Atoms and Electricity” you might start out:

                                                Atoms & Electricity

1.                  Structure of Atoms

A.        Consist of a nucleus (containing positively charged protons & neutrons)

B.         Negatively charged electrons orbit the nucleus

Etc.

In other words, you should outline these sections, just like you have done with the books that we have used.  Include sketches when they will help explain.

Day 2

1.         Read and outline the “Background” sections:

DC Voltage

Basic Circuits

Current vs. Electron Flow

Formulas You’ll Meet Along the Way

Day 3

1.                  Click on “Activities”.  Read the directions.

2.                  Do the Ohm’s Law Activity.   Read and outline the background on Ohm’s Law.

3.                  Download the Computer Activity Questions and work through them.

4.                  Read and outline the “Open and Closed Circuits” Background information.

5.                  Click on “Wiring Directions”.  Read the information and do the simulation.  Do the Calculation and submit your answer.

Day 4

1.                  Read and outline the “Series and Parallel Circuits” background.

2.                  Do “Part 1 – Series Circuits Wiring Directions”

3.                  Do “Part 1 – Hands on Series and Parallel Circuits.

4.                  Do “Part 1 Questions” under Series and Parallel Circuits.

Day 5

1.                  Do “Part 2 – Parallel Circuits Wiring Directions

2.                  Do “Part 2 – Hands on

3.                  Do Part 2 – Questions

If you finish early, you may continue working through these lessons in order.

Each time you finish a section, be sure to show it to Mrs. Knutson to receive credit.
