7th Grade Rotation
One elective option available for 7th graders is the rotation. The 7th grade rotation involves the following four classes. Each class would last for one quarter.
Art
In 7th Grade Art students are exposed to numerous artists. They study color theory, as well as, create in a variety of mediums and techniques such as Paper Mache, graphite, colored pencil and charcoal drawing, printmaking, hand built pottery, watercolor and tempera painting to name a few.
Family Consumer Science
This class deals with food preparation and nutrition, sewing (both by hand and by machine), and child development. They take the Red Cross Babysitter’s Safety course, look at different career options, learn how to write a resume, and how to handle money.
Business Education
In the 7th grade class there are two primary areas that students will be focusing on; the first is keyboarding, and the second is classroom assignments which focus on keyboarding, graphic design, spreadsheets and charts, Microsoft Power Point, and if time allows Garage Band and iMovie applications. A typical day in for 7th graders would be 12 minutes of keyboarding on a program called Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, and then the rest of the class period would be spent working on the current classroom project. Students keyboard for 12 minutes per day for the first four weeks to improve their keyboarding speed, after four weeks we reduce keyboarding to 3 times per week for the rest of the quarter.
Applied Technology
Applied Technology is a super class that all students should have the opportunity to take. Students will explore hands-on activities such as Robotics, Aerodynamics, Mechanical Design, Lasers and manufacturing technologies. The hands on opportunities will help students explore technologies of the past, present and future. The class will develop students critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies.
