8th Grade Rotation

The 8th grade rotation involves two classes out of the following four choices available.  Each class would last for one semester.

Art

In 8th grade Art students are exposed to numerous artists and their work.  They create in various mediums and techniques but at a more advanced level.  They work in hand built clay, sculpture and throwing on the potter’s wheel.  Figure, landscape and perspective drawing are emphasized.

Family Consumer Science

This class deals with more in-depth food preparation, application of nutritional principles, sewing, career options, personal finance, and life skills such as laundry, wardrobe, care giving, family units, and living environments.

Business Technology

In 8th grade there is less of a focus on keyboarding every day and projects are the name of the game.  Some of the projects that we create are a 14 page self-book that students can print out, laminate, and bind into an interesting reading book!  We also study the stock market, looking at symbols, recent trades, % changes, company profiles, and track our investments as the market fluctuates. Students will also be producing an 8 minute iMovie and a soundtrack that goes along with it. They will be encouraged to check out a video camera and shoot footage for their movie.  Other projects focus on spreadsheets, charts, graphic designs, and internet research.

Applied Technology

Applied Technology is a super class that all students should have the opportunity to take. Students will explore hands-on activities such as Robotics, Aerodynamics, Mechanical Design, Lasers and manufacturing technologies. The hands on opportunities will help students explore technologies of the past, present and future. The class will develop students critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies.
