SPRING 2002

We are curently involved in a study of Newton's Laws of Motion through an investigation of roller coasters. Students have been involved in experiments exploring gravity, potential and kinetic energy, centrifugal and centripetal force.

The students are now building functional roller coaster models using a marble as the passenger car on their ride. Many different materials have been used and the different designs are really something to see! The ride must fit on a 22" x 36" platform and be no taller than 3' for storage purposes.

Construction will wrap up around spring break time, and we will have an evening open house in early April so parents can come visit with us, see the kids' projects, and take them home! The kids have really been working hard and we're looking forward to the final results! We'll send a letter home well ahead of time so you can mark your calendars.

Just in case, we've included links to the criteria for this assignment in PDF format: Model Proposal and Model Rubric.
