1 semester.
Grade level 11-12.

Engineering is a high-demand, high-wage industry where career opportunities are virtually unlimited. The shortage of engineers nationwide makes this course invaluable for those who are considering entering this exciting career field.
In Pre-Engineering you will learn what engineering is all about, what engineers do, what it takes to be accepted into a college engineering program, what employment opportunities are available, and the many career opportunities in engineering.
This class is designed to be hands-on, challenging and fun. You will be introduced to the major engineering fields: Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Petroleum, Environmental, and Electrical. Math, science, technology and your imagination will be applied in a variety of fun and challenging design competitions and labs that will teach basic engineering principles.
Students will delve into engineering design, reverse engineering and research and development strategies where students design, build, and test prototypes, refine their designs and conduct destructive testing.
Guest speakers and field trips will show students experienced engineers at work.
Students who have the interest and skills may qualify for internships and summer jobs in different engineering disciplines in Anchorage and across Alaska.
