Mears Volunteers are Needed!
The PTSA can not do it all with out the parent volunteers at Mears! We would benefit from any time you can give whether it is one hour for the entire school year, or as many as you can fit into your schedule. The PTSA is regularly tasked with fun events for the students that help make this school a better place. If you are interested in volunteering for any of the events listed below, please let Renee Robinson know by email at smrlrobinson@yahoo.com or phone at 646-0821.
School Store, Daily
The store is open to the students everyday for two sessions: 7:30 am 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 am 12:15 pm. There are volunteer opportunities for you if you wish to work on a regular basis (example: every Monday morning), or if you would rather simply be a substitute and be on call. With the store being open everyday, we can use all the help we can get!
School Store, After School Events
The school store is open for special occasions such as school dances and Mears hosted sports events. There are large crowds of students, parents and teachers at these events which is a great opportunity to sell high volumes of food items which in turn helps the PTSA bring in more money for Mears!
Magazine Fundraiser
The magazine fundraiser will kick off in late September and will run through mid-October. This is Mears largest fundraising event and we rely heavily on the proceeds for the PTSA budget. There will be several assemblies during the school day where we will need parents to help hand out packets, and then we will need parents to help collect orders on certain days before school (as the students arrive for school). Specific dates will be provided as we are advised.
Dance Chaperones and Decorators
There will be three dances for the students throughout the school year: October 25th , January 17th, and March 20th. The dances begin after school at 3:00 and end at 4:30. We need parents who would like to contribute their creative talents with decorating and also those who wish to chaperone!
8th Grade Bash
The 8th Graders are scheduled to have their 8th Grade Bash on May 21st at 1:00 p.m. We need parents who would like to be on the committee to plan this event, and then those who would like to help on the day of the event. The event is different every year with ideas such as an ice cream social to a barbeque, so if you want to be a part of the plan from the start, this is for you! Let’s make it fun for all of our 8th graders who will be completing their Middle School years and heading off to High School!
Hospitality
The PTSA organizes food items for the teachers during Parent/Teacher Conference weeks (weeks beginning November 5th and March 24th). The teachers are so busy during this week, and we like to treat them to a buffet of food to say thank you and to simply give them a much needed break. We need help planning the food items, and more importantly, we need donations of food! If you like to cook, or you would just like to donate a pre-made Costco salad, we need you!!! There is never too much food!
Good Behavior Rewards
The PTSA provides rewards for the Assistant Principals to hand out to students who demonstrate noticeable good behavior. If you have contacts or are associated with a business or company that would be willing to donate towards this cause, please let us know! Ideas are coupons for food items at restaurants, discounts for movie tickets, free movie rentals, and coupons or discounts for music.
