The salary isn't great at $82,000 to $97,000, and sometimes as high as $120,000, but it is a good job. You study space, creat theories, and analyse data. Some, but not all people work with telescopes, but most work with some other common tools like electronic imaging tools, photometers (which measure light), spectrographs (which measure color) and computers.

To be an astronomer and get payed decent you have you have good psysics and mathematics backrounds, a degree of at least 4 years, but the best thing to get is a Ph.D. Without those you won't get payed a lot or else won't even get work. Also you need to want to work late nights and weekends, and want to think outside the box.
