2007-2008
 END OF YEAR

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

THANK YOUS & GOOD-BYES:  The PTA Board would like to thank all O’Malley families, teachers and staff for a wonderful school year.  We wish to say farewell and good luck to three outstanding teachers who will be leaving us:  Ms. Florence Daniel, Ms. Mary Hoppas, and Ms. Patti Randlett.  We are grateful to have had such caring and devoted educators teaching our children.  We wish you all the best, but we will miss you.

The Board says thank you to Pam Okeson who served as President for two years and Historian for two years and spearheaded the fund-raising and purchasing of the computer lab several years ago.  She was also instrumental in getting a large state grant which we used to purchase technology upgrades.

Lori McVay is stepping down from her role as President for the last two years – thank you Lori, for all that you’ve done to run the O’Malley PTA while working full-time.  Lori will continue to contribute by participating as PTA Historian.

YOUR DOLLARS AT WORK:   The Auction cleared an amazing $19,500 this year – thanks to the energetic and cheerful leadership of Michelle Brown and her committee Sheri Ohlson, who coordinated the flower pot painting for each classroom and Anita Moran who coordinated the beautiful kindergarten quilt.   We are looking for an Auction Chairperson(s) for next year!  It could be you!

You may have heard the stunning news that O’Malley will be receiving a new IMAC Computer Lab (33 computers!) from the Anchorage School District (ASD).  The new lab will be installed in August.  The PTA has been saving for three years to buy new computers – so we have some extra money.  We hope to spend it on much needed Computer Projectors and Document Projectors for the classrooms and for some playground upgrades.  Last week, we happily approved the purchase of an IMAC Printer compatible with the new lab.

A Playground Committee, spearheaded by PE Teacher Jan Konkler, was established this year and they have already made some recommendations to the PTA.  The next step is to get ASD to review our playground situation, then we plan to purchase several smaller playground pieces such as a funnel ball set, a new swing set for the kindergarteners, and soccer goals.  A major upgrade of the Playground will be a PTA goal next year.

NOON DUTIES:  Your children missed too many recesses due to lack of Noon Duties this year.  There must be two Noon Duties available in order for the children to have recess.  The Anchorage School District is aware of the problem.  Two of our regular noon duties will not be here next year, so, please think about donating your time one day a week or month so that the children can have lunch recess.  This can be a paid position of $10/hour for you or a relative – grandparents would be great!  The hours are 11:30 until 1:20.  Please contact Kristen Serra 346-8036 arcticserras@aol.com if you have any questions.  There will be opportunities to sign up for “Noon Duty” when you register your children in August.

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES:  It’s not too late for you or your relatives to sign up for ESCRIP.  It’s a program that allows O’Malley to get a percentage of your purchases when you shop at participating stores like Carrs and Eddie Bauer.  If you haven’t signed up, PLEASE SIGN UP NOW.  The website is www.escrip.com/.  O’Malley’s Identification number is 6546783.   Contact Sandy Lowther at 243-2854 with questions.   If you shop at PARTYCRAFT off of International, mention “O’Malley” when you check out and the school will receive a portion of your purchase.
