Year’s End Notes

It is hard to believe we are embarking upon our final days of a great year of teaching and learning at our school. This is a time to reflect on our many successes. We have a lot to be proud of and I can’t say thank you enough to the staff, parents, PTA, community volunteers, and our school business partners for taking a supportive role in providing countless learning and enrichment opportunities for our students.

“The possible’s slow fuse is lit by the imagination.”

~ Emily Dickinson ~

This quote speaks to all of us: students, teachers and parents alike. We can accomplish anything that we set our minds to do. I look forward to our continued work together of motivating and inspiring our students. Emily Dickinson encourages young people to dream great dreams and to follow through on these dreams by believing, doing, and thinking. It is not just enough to merely dream of future greatness; we must apply many hours of disciplined thought and action so that we realize our own dreams. By example, our students are learning this from us, and we will be well served, many years from now, when their own fuse becomes shorter and shorter—with resounding results! As you begin to make your summer plans, keep igniting that fuse of possibility by encouraging your student to dream.

Once again, thanks to all of you for an amazing year, and I look forward to many more to come. Rogers Park is a GREAT place to work, and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity. Have a safe, adventurous summer enjoying the time with family and friends.

Note that fall registration dates are August 6th-8th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The first day of school for students in grades 2-6 will be Wednesday, August 21st, and Kindergarten and First graders will begin Wednesday, August 28th. The PTA back–to-school social is set for Tuesday, August 20th, from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Our last school day this year is Thursday, May 23rd. Please remind your student that they are to leave their backpacks at home on the last day of school. They should have taken their entire personal belongings home in the days prior to the last day. Check out the lost-and-found table and bins for missing items. Unclaimed items will be donated to a charitable organization on Friday, May 24th. As we turn our thoughts back to summer, please help us take care of our school during the summer. If you notice any vandalism, suspicious activity or anything dangerous, please contact the District’s Security and Emergency Preparedness Office at 742-7800.

Again, thank you for making my first year at Rogers Park wonderful. I look forward to your continued support and devotion to our learning community. Have a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer. See you next year!
