Year End Approaching

Denise Demetree-Trombley, Principal

Yippee!  Another season of SBA testing is over.  I was very impressed with how serious our students took their testing.  I know they were well prepared.   I am so appreciative of our teachers and staff regarding their flexibility in our testing schedule.  I am also extremely thankful for our fabulous PTA for, once again, committing to providing a healthy snack for all of our students on SBA testing days.  Thank you everyone for making our 2014 SBA testing season such a success.  Results of the SBA tests are due to be released at the very end of this school year.

Spring is definitely in the air.  The snow is melting.  The days are getting longer and warmer; however, we are not quite there yet.   As a reminder, please make sure that your child continues to dress appropriately for school and the unpredictable spring weather.  It is still too cold and there is too much snow for students to not be wearing their coats to school (and during recess).  Flip-flop style shoes are never allowed at school, as they are a safety hazard.  I think it is safe to say that it is okay to pull out the rain boots, as puddles are beginning to form.

Please help me wish Katrinka Dabbs, Kris Bullock, and Nancy Boardway a fond farewell.  Katrinka is currently working as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant with Ms. Bezona.  She will be transferring next week to a full-time position at CrossRoads.  Kris also worked as a kindergarten teacher’s assistance this year with Ms. Flanigan.  She has been with Rogers Park for the past four years and is now enjoying retirement in Georgia.  Nancy joined our special education team as a teachers’ assistant this year, and recently transferred back to her neighborhood school to continue her work in special education.  All have been an asset to our school community and will be missed greatly.  I know saying goodbye can be very difficult, but all the best to these wonderful ladies in their next adventure in life.

These last six weeks of school are going to be very busy, engaging, exciting, and educational.  However, as the end of the year draws closer, we tend to see an increase in poor choices and disruptive behaviors.  I know teachers regularly review our school rules and expectations, all of which are grounded in our school-wide expectations of being Safe, Respectful and Kind, Responsible and Ready.  Please help us finish the year on a positive note by talking with your child about continuing to make good choices.

Here’s looking forward to sunny, warm days ahead and a very smooth and successful close to the school year.

Register online for next school year

Online registration will give parents the option to register returning students online, eliminating the need to register in person.

Is your child returning to our school next year?  If so, you can register him/her online from the comfort of your home.  The district is implementing an online registration system through Zangle ParentConnection for all returning students starting with the 2014-2015 school year.

If you do not have your Zangle ParentConnection PIN/Password, please contact our office.

The online registration window is July 7 – August 8.

Online registration will only be available for returning students.  New-to-district students will still need to enroll in person at the school or at the central enrollment event over the summer.  Transferring students will also need to register in person.  If you miss the online registration period, you may still register in person at the school at the beginning of August.

Questions about online registration should be directed to our front office.
