NJHS is primarily a service organization. Members must possess the qualities associated with being contributing members of the community. Eligibility is open to any seventh or eighth grader. Students must meet the scholarship requirement of 3.5 This is an average of grades in all classes from the first and second nine weeks. Students must receive recommendations from three Romig teachers. Faculty consider five characteristics when recommending a student for inclusion in the NJHS. These characteristics are scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students must also complete several hours of community service. Students are invited to join NJHS in late January. The candle lighting induction ceremony takes place in April.
