Romig Middle School PTSA

August 26, 2008

 

Attendance:

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 8:15 a.m.

 

Presidentıs Report:

Valerie did not prepare an agenda for this first meeting, as she is looking for new direction and plans for the year.

 

Treasurerıs Report:

The PTSA audit has been completed, and the IRS Form 990 will be sent in. PTSA has approximately $6,000 in the bank, $500-600 of which will go in dues to Alaska PTA and approximately $170 of which will pay for PTSA insurance. Wendy will be reimbursed $250 for the color copies that she made of the fundraising brochure.

 

Fundraising Update:

The ³No Sale Fundraiser² earned approximately $800 during registration. Principal Gustafson will pitch the fundraiser at the Romig Open House, and brochures will be included in the next newsletter.

 

eScrip Update:

Romig signed 50 new members during registration and currently has 668 supporters. Our income is decreasing by approximately $50 each month. Wendy will send a reminder to the PTSA membership to bring their Carrs Club Card member numbers to open house so that they can register for eScrip there.

 

Remodel Update:

The West-Romig remodel is moving ahead. $900,000 has been appropriated to fund the master plan, and RFPs have been published requesting a master planner and project manager.

 

Principalıs Report:

The new curtains that were ordered last year will be here in six weeks.

 

New Business:

1)    Wendy established a gmail account that will be accessible to PTSA Board members. Emails to the PTSA membership can be sent through this account, and members can communicate directly to Board members. All messages will be visible to the Board, which will facilitate communication.

 

2)    The meeting schedule for the year was set. The PTSA Board will meet in Principal Gustafsonıs office at 8:15 a.m. on the following dates: 9/18, 10/16, 11/20, 1/15, 2/19, 3/19, 4/16, and 5/7. There will be general membership meetings on September 10, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. (prior to the Romig Open House) and on May 13, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. It was suggested that emails be sent to Romigıs feeder schools inviting them to attend.

3)    PTSA needs to speak to the music department regarding potential co-coordinators for the cake auction. Janice Torres will help plan the auction again this year if she has a group of parents to help. The date for the cake auction is February 25, 2009.

4)    This is the slate of officers previously elected for the 2008-2009 school year:

c.     Treasurer: Alicia de la Cruz

 

The following candidates will be voted on at the upcoming general membership meeting:

 

d.     Vice-President: Rochene Rowan Hellen

e.     Vice-President of Membership: OPEN. *Wendy will contact potential candidates for this position.
