Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 8:12 a.m.
Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the meetings on January 14 and January 18, 2008,
were approved.
New Business:
Wendy presented a resolution in support of funding for the
West/Romig master plan, which is requesting $950,000 from the
legislature for master planning. This resolution is being approved
by local groups and will be sent to Governor Palin to show local
support. A motion for the Romig PTSA to sign this resolution passed
unanimously.
Treasurer's Report:
Romig PTSA currently has $10,181 in the bank. Approximately
$2600 from eScrip has not yet arrived.
eScrip Update:
Colleen mentioned that the West Highschool PTSA has found
their eScrip profits declining from $1100-1200 per month to approximately
$900. As more members from different schools have joined, there
have been fewer profits for everyone. This may be something that
the Romig PTSA will experience and will need to consider when
discussing future fundraising efforts.
Principal's Report:
o Romig is presently participating in Black History/Multicultural
Month. Activities have included a student assembly, Taiko drummers,
Polynesian dancers, West High Bridge Builders, and a "Who
Am I?" morning question. Winning answers for the "Who
Am I?" question qualify students for a drawing for an iPod.
o The Spanish Immersion program continues to fundraise for their
trip. They have received donations from local businesses, including
Fred Meyers and Giant Don's Flooring America.
o Romig was well-represented at recent competitions, winning both
Battle of the Books and Mathcounts.
o The Career and Technology Conference at King Career Center was
attended by Romig staff, who won an electric sketchboard for the
building. Principal Gustafson and Romig teachers are looking at
possibilities for the inclusion of applied technology into the
Romig curriculum.
o Romig staff and administration are also considering changing
to a block schedule for the next school year.
Grant Applications:
o Catherine Taylor presented a funding request for a GPS-based
semester course that integrates GIS, language arts, GPS, and geography.
Ms. Taylor was able to obtain the curriculum at no charge. She
requested funds to purchase eight GPS units, cables for connecting
the units to the computer for uploading information, and batteries,
at a cost of $1052. The PTSA board discussed the importance of
using rechargeable batteries as well as the feasibility of having
four students per GPS unit. After discussion, the PTSA board unanimously
approved the purchase of 16 GPS units (allowing for two students
per unit), cabling, and rechargeable battery packs, all of which
should not exceed a total cost of $3040.
o A grant application was made by Ms. Buswell requesting $78 to
purchase theater tickets to be used as door prizes at the upcoming
Girls Math Conference. This request passed unanimously.
Upcoming Events:
There will be a Romig new parent orientation at 6:30 p.m. on April
17. Valerie will represent the PTSA at this orientation, and Jenny
will attend to answer questions from a parent's perspective.
Cake Auction Update:
The cake auction will be held on March 4. At this time, 16
cakes have been donated and a total of 24 cakes are needed. The
auction flyer needs to go out again. Wendy needs more volunteers
for the bake sale. Wendy will also need a cash box, and Alicia
will write a check for $140 and obtain the cash for the box. A
credit card vendor will bring two credit card machines to Romig
on March 3rd. Stadium cushions will be sold at the event for $10.00.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
