The Arabian Oryx is an endangered animal because it gets killed so that its horns can be sold for a handsome amount of money. The horns are very long, straight, ringed permanent horns. The female oryx have slightly longer horns, but they are thinner, not as thick as a male oryx's horns would be. Also, they have long legs that end in wide, hoofed feet. The oryx has a white, light brown coat that can easily camoflage into their enviroment. The Oryx is a herbivore and eats the following foods: grass, shrubs, and roots. They swallow their food without chewing. After awhile, they regurgitate a partly-digested cud which they chew and then swallow for the last time. This animal can also go for weeks without water, and gets lots of its water from the plants it eats. Their herds can get as large as eight to sixty oryx. The newborn calves can run with the herd within minutes after birth. They live to be up to 20 years old. The Arabian Oryx is a fast running mammal that lives in dry regions of Africa and Asia.
