The giant pandas are endangered because they are having a loss of their habitat, and they are also killed for their wooly pelts. The panda is a carnivore, that has adopted to being a vegetarian. They live on bamboo, which is also used for a reed to play instruments. Pandas are usually solitary animals. Pandas don't breed easily when they are in captivity. Their cubs (after they are born) weigh about five ounces. Pandas are not like cats that have a lot of kittens at once. Pandas only have 1 or 2 cubs at a time. Giant pandas are about five feet tall in their height. Their weight is about 200 to 300 pounds. They live in dense bamboo and coniferous forests at altitudes of 5000 to 10000 feet. There are fewer then 1000 giant pandas left in the wild.
