In Japan, bullet trains are called Shikansen. Shikansen means "new super express" in Japanese. They are used by many people in Japan. Japan's bullet trains are world renowned for their speed (they hold the current world record for fastest average speed between two station stops) and safety (they have had no deaths since 1964.) That is why so many people in Japan use the Shikansen railway system. The bullet trains are used by almost everyone and stop at almost all large cities in Japan. Bullet trains tracks run mostly through the areas that aren't as populated, but at sometime in most every ride they will have to run through the city. Tickets for Shinkansen are sold in two main places: vending machines that sell only tickets, and the train station.
When you want to ride a bullet train you may be confused with how to use them and where to go, so these are some tips to help you be less confused.
1) If confused, where to go you might try and ask your hotel where the nearest bullet train station is. Chances are that they will know English.
2) You can reserve a seat so you know that someone will not take your seat. Reserving your seat does cost some more money, but it is worth it if you have to get some place on time.
3) Always keep a steady watch on when your train is supposed to arrive. Don't expect delays; most trains come in within the second of when they are said they would arrive.
