Unlike a boxing ring, a sumo ring is round.

Sumo Wrestling has roots to the Shinto religion. The matches were dedicated to the gods in prayers for a good harvest.

Sumo prints from the 18th and the 19th century prove the popularity of the sport in the past. During the last two decades sumo wrestling art has established itself outside of Japan.

Referees at a Sumo Wrestling match are always dressed in a luxurious kimono and wear a weird hat. They will be very easy to spot.

Most wrestlers start wrestling in their mid-teens and retire in their early thirties.
