There are many different kinds of fashions, from skaters to goths to even cowgirls! Not long ago 7.5 in. platform shoes, bleached hair and mini skirts were popular. But now the "cool" thing is to have a grown up look, with duller light colors and instead of bleached hair, light brown hair. The boys in Japan have a relaxed look pretty close to American boys with white T-shirts, button up shirts and jeans.

The make-up fashion used to be thick eyebrows, dark tan with white or light make-up and bright pink lipstick which was mostly in the 1980's. Now eyebrows are back to normal, a natural look is also popular (normal skin color). Colorful and glittery mascara is very in; even the older people like it. The most popular colors are blue and dark purple but black is still in. The most popular lipstick now is a light pink with beige and a lot of shiny lip gloss.

Yukata is a popular informal leisure clothing. There are also Kimono which are worn which are close to yukatas, but more expensive and formal. Normally a Kimono is worn on a traditional occasion such as a wedding, funeral, tea ceremonies, and sometimes everyday life.
