Taoists do not believe in personified deities; instead, they see all gods worshipped by men as creations or manifestations of the Tao, which is the cause of everything, being, happening.... If I were to put it in layman's terms, I would approximate the Tao (loosely, of course,) to be the "Force" from Star Wars. The ultimate goal of any believer is to become one with the Tao, but two important other tasks are to promote health and vitality, and to develop virtue. Believers are often kind to others, mainly because such an action is eventually returned to the virtuer. One of the most important principles of Taoism is P'u: the Uncarved Block. This represents the idea of letting nature flow along and not interfering. Taoists believe that when mankind interferes with the natural order of things, disharmony is created. Also, Taoists believe that a person should plan their actions carefully before carrying them out, or disaster may occur.
