What to do when your student is absent:
Call the school at 742-5202 by 10:00 AM to report your student's absence. If you forget to call the day of the absence, the student needs to bring a note to school the next morning excusing the absence, and an admit will be issued that needs to be shown to each teacher during the day.
If your child has an appointment and needs to leave school:
Send a note with your student or call the school in the morning to let the school know what time you will pick up your student. A blue pass will be sent to student prior to their pick-up time. The student will be excused from class and will wait on the front bench inside the front door of the school. If the child returns to school before the end of the day, he or she should check in to the office prior to returning to class.
If you are absent from school, your parents or guardian must telephone the school between 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. The attendance phone number is 742-5202. If you are absent from school and your parent telephones the school saying that you are absent, you may go to your classes when you return to school. However, if your parent does not call:
1. Bring a written note from your parent or guardian.
2. Get an "Admit Slip" from the office before going to your first class.
3. Give the admit slip to each of your teachers when you go to class. The teachers will sign the admit slip and give it back to you.
Types of absences:
Authorized: parent approval has been given -- such as illness, appointments with physicians, dentists, sponsored activities, et. You may to the schoolwork you missed while you were absent. You will be given one (1) day to make up for every one (1) day of authorized absence. You may have no more than five days to do make up work.
Unauthorized: Unauthorized absences from classes or school are those absences which happen without your parent or guardian's knowledge. You will not be allowed to make up school work for unauthorized absences.
Pre-arranged: Any absence, non-illness, which will be three days or more must be arranged before the absence occurs. If arrangements are made prior to the absence, the student will be allowed to make up the class work which was missed. However, if a student does not arrange for the absence, make up work may not be allowed.
Blue Pass (official pass to leave school): Preferably send a detailed note with the child to exchange for a Blue Pass, before Period 1, the day of the appointment. Or call 742-5202 and request a Blue Pass, well in advance of the appointment. Please avoid making appointments during tests and finals and/or showing up at the last minute. Students leaving school without a Blue Pass are considered truant.
