Homework Excuses!

I don't have any homework tonight.

As a parent you are probably wondering how this can be and in most cases, the student does have homework. Ask your child to show you his or her agenda. If the agenda is blank, the student has not written the assignment down. Ask your child to begin writing down all of his or her assignments from the board. The child can ask the teacher to sign the agenda to show the assignment is correctly written.

My homework is all done. I turned it in at school today.

Most teachers do not collect homework the same day it is given. Homework is collected the next day. If your child has done the work, he or she can show you the completed assignment and you can verify it by looking at the agenda.

I know I did it, but I can't find the assignment or the teacher lost it.

Organizational skills are very important at this age. Everyone has to learn a system that works for him or her. Check your child's notebook. If there are papers scattered everywhere, help your child organize the notebook. We have a demonstration notebook in our office as well as a short video that students can watch on how to organize their notebook.
