April/May Newsletter

Hello Chilkat parents and team members,

In Language Arts, students will be reading short stories and the novel To Kill a Mockingbird (TKAM). In Science, students will be working on their Astronomy projects with multiple due dates, generally one per week. In Social Studies students are studying the presidencies of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. Also, students will be researching a Native American group met by the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Upcoming Chilkat Projects and Events:

April 18: Romig Talent Show 1:00 PM
April 19: We The People City-wide Competition at Begich
April 24: Dance, 3:00-4:30 PM

May 13: Chilkat Year-End Team Day: will include Bowling, Lunch, and Awards. Parents, we would like to collect $10.00 per student to cover costs of bowling and awards. If you would like to help out students for whom the bowling costs are a hardship and/or if you would like to help with purchase of awards, additional donations will be accepted. The lunch will be paid for as a prize from winning the Pennies for Patients Leukemia Society fundraiser. Also, parent chaperones will be needed for our bowling time.

Note: A student will be ineligible for the bowling field trip if they receive a detention or referral from team teachers or are assigned an ISS or OSS from April 16- May 12.

Final Exams: School-wide Final Exams will be given in each class on May 20 and 21 with Review Days on May 16 and 19.

A final note of advice: Students keep your eyes focused on doing your best in school as you close out your 8th grade year!
