Commercial fishing today is more technological than it was one hundred years ago. There are motorized boats, motorized crab pot pullers, and there are even motorized fishing reels.

The most common methods of commercial fishing today are drag seines, set net, long-lining, and some people still use just a rod and reel for commercial fishing. People also use down-riggers which are machines that help you get your line down to the bottom while you're trolling.

Crab and shrimp fishing has also advanced in technology. Now instead of pulling a crab pot up by hand commercial fishermen can use these five foot tall crane type things that have hydraulic pumps in them. Now all the fishermen have to do is press a button a the crab pot comes up in a couple of minutes.
