After the oil spill more than 35 thousand birds
and about 1 thousand sea otters were found dead,
but since most of the carcass sank to the bottom of the water
some consider this is a small fraction of the actual amount. Best
estimates are 250 thousand sea birds, 28 hundred sea otters, 3
hundred harbor seals, 250 bald birds, 22 whales, and billion and
billions of salmon and herring eggs.
10 years later
10 years later after the oil spill injuries continue to plague
some of the injured species, while
others are fully recovered. But of those 23 species listed as
injured by the oil spill, only 2 have
been "fully recovered".
How were animals cleaned?
Professional teams and dozens of volunteers set up a cleaning facility and a recovery facility. Dawn washing detergent was used to clean the animals.
