Characteristics

The Asian elephants has many characteristics, one of which is it's height. It is an excessively tall mammal that, as an adult, can reach the height of nine and a half to ten feet tall. This is a height obvously much larger than humans and larger than most other animals. They usually weigh around eight-thousand pounds. Most elephants in Asia are whitish-gray, having large pinkish spots. Most bulls have tusks that can grow to about four to five feet long. This is the largest land animal on earth.

They differ from their African relatives, having smaller ears that are straight on the bottom, unlike the large fan shaped ears of the African type. The Asian species is smaller weighted by about five to six hundred pounds, compared to the African species. The height also changes; seven to twelve ft. compared to ten to thirteen ft. tall. The Sri Lanka type of elephant is the darkest and largest species. Some have patches without color on their ears, face, trunk, or stomach.
