History- Komodo dragons go as far back as 250 million years ago where they were just small little monitors. But as time went on some monikers grew apart from others and migrated as Southeast as they could get and eventuly ended up some where in Europe and South Asia. As you would think komodos would be related to dinosaurs. But they aren't related, alligators and crocodiles are more related to dinosaurs. As shallow water came in the lizards started there journey, swimming and walking to North Australia where on there way stayed in Indonesia. The komodos in Australia died out and in Indonesia there was huge and bigger animals. So they evolved to being about 28 ft in length! That's one big lizard, it's the biggest in the world.

When the Ice age hit it forced all of them to Indonesia where they would settle there. In Indonesia the animals weren't as large so, the grew to a 9ft.
In the year 1938 people recognized that these animals were an endangered species and didn't build a sanctuary until 1965. They gave it the name "Komodo national park". It was established by the government decree in 1980, followed by the designation of komodo National Park as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
This Sanctuary is located between the island of Subawa an Flores in the Lesser Sunda Islands. The total land area is 75,000 hectares and a number of islands, the largest Komodo (34,000 hectares, Rinca (20,000 hectares). Pasdan, Nusa Kode, Motang, and a number of smaller Islands.
In this park there was only small animals like rats. So they introduced larger unative animals such as the water buffalo and other animals. Komodo makes up of 80 perfected islands in Indonesia.
Habitat- These unique animals are only found on the islands of Komodo and three other islands. The climate of the park has the lowest rainfall in Indonesia. For most of the year the climate is fairly dry and hot, the maximum tempture is 42 degrees Celsius. Theis is perfect place for komodos.

The park is dry rugged and hilly with bushes and trees. This sounds like they're realy ruffinit, but this is parodies for them.
Food source- Komodos usual eat any thing they can get, wild bors, water buffalo, rodents, other komodos, and even humans.
What is really bad though is that poachers still try to get there hide or egg or something. That is one small reason why they built this Sanctuary, to protect the few Komodos living.
Poaching and human environment enter action- Poaching is a leading cause of small population of Komodos and human enter action just makes it worse.
