Bengal tigers are mostly found in India. Their numbers have fallen to 8,000 in just 11 years. Their population of 4,300 has gone down to 3,500. The main reasons the Bengal Tigers are dying is because poaching and development projects. They estimate 200 to 300 tigers in India are dying every year. Most of the Tigers are found in the Sunderbans which are in Bangladesh and India. The Sunderbans are a wetland ecosystems. The Royal Bengal Tigers are now sometimes eating people because they are losing food. They are sometimes called man-eaters. The people who become their prey are the people who hunt, fish, and get honey in the forests. An average of 34 people die per year because of the Bengal tigers. Only about 25 percent of the tigers eat people. The tiger is a threat to more than 250,000 people who live in the Sunderbans. The tigers are resorting to humans for many reasons and some are loss of food, damming of a river, and flooding. Poaching is a big problem ,too. Tiger skins are worth up to $3,000 a piece. Paws, bones, and genitals of tigers are also used in Chinese medicines.

One way of protecting Bengal tigers is by setting aside land for national parks.
