The Bengal tiger has the largest population of the five tiger species. Tigers in northern India are lighter in color and grow a little longer than the tigers in southern India. Tigers like to eat large mammal prey. Their main prey is deer, antelope, bears, wild pigs, buffalo, wild cattle, and porcupines. Tigers also like water, while many wild cats don't. They can also climb trees. Tigers go into breeding season between February and May. It takes 15 to 16 weeks until the cubs are born. Females usually have two cubs, but some have had up to six. The cubs stay with their mother until they are two years of age. Once they reach that point they are on their own. Tigers can live up to 20 years of age. Bengal Tigers like to hunt in the coolest parts of the day. They mostly hunt between sunset and dawn or during the days that happen to be cloudy and cool.
