Mandarin Ducks have beautiful plumage.The male has more beautiful plumage in order to attract a mate, and is considered to have one of the most beautiful plumages of birds in the world. The male's plumage consists a rainbow of colors and many different shapes of feathers.

The Mandarin duck's diet consists of seeds, weeds, and grass located near water. They will also eat spiders, insects, and little mollusks. The females lay nine to twelve eggs and it takes about 28 to 30 days to hatch. Mandarin ducks can perch in trees and their nests are situated in holes in trees.

The mandarin ducks are not endangered, thanks to breeders. These birds were introduced to Europe but they are native to Asia. Their distribution is in East Asia. They live from lower Siberia and the South Kuril Islands, from Japan to Ryukyu Islands, and Korea and North East China. The mandarin duck spends the winter in southeast China and Taiwan. They live in wooded areas around ponds, marshes, and streams. They live in Japan all year. They also have been acclimatized to parts of the U.S. and Europe.
