Wild Asian elephants are usually found in very large areas because they travel in large groups. Their habitat is mainly tropical because they live in Asia. They live in forests and are not typically found in wide open spaces yet they can sometimes be found in less occupied areas because that is where they find the water holes.
The plain areas that some elephants are found in are often grassy. Their habitat often consists of green plants considering they are herborvors. The plains need to be at least 10,000 ft. long and wide to fit the elephant's needs. You usually find the elephants traveling and living in large groups. This is yet another reason why their living area is considerably large. The elephants must live around large ponds to serve enough water for each elephant's bathing and drinking needs. Because elephants are so large and use their ponds so much, after a while the water becomes mucky and muddy. Sometimes it isn't good for the elephants to drink the muddy water. The grasses in the area which they live are rather long so that elephants don't have to reach too far down for their food. Many weeds and other plants that elephants can't eat also grow in their habitat.
