The Giant Panda is a species of bear. It is black and white. It's head and top of it's backside are white. It's ears, circles around it's eyes, legs, paws, and thestripe across it's back are all black. When you compare the Giant Panda to the rest of the bears of the world it has a fairly large head compared to the rest of its body. Male Giant Pandas are larger than the females. They weight ten to twenty pounds more and are a little longer than females. In the wild a male Giant Panda's weight is 190 to 275 pounds and a female's weight in the wild is only 155 to 220 pounds. When a baby panda is born it weighs 3 to 5 ounces. If you were to compare them to an an elephant it would take 40 grown pandas to equal the size of an elephant.

Giant Pandas live in dense bamboo forests in the mountains at elevations of 4,000 to 11,500 feet. Male Giant Pandas have a territory of 3.3 square miles. Females on the other hand have almost less than half of that territory size, only 1.8 square miles. The only place where they live in the wild is in Southwest China. The area Giant Pandas occupy in China is about 5,400 square miles.
