Pandas in the Wild

The giant panda, (a black and white bear) lives mostly in China. The red panda (an animal that looks like a red-furred raccoon) lives mostly in northern India, Nepal, and northern Myanmar. The difference? The red panda is more of a raccoon while the Giant panda is more like a bear.

Giant pandas in the wild are usually solitary animals. They start mating at four to seven years old. A mother panda has one or two cubs each year. A baby panda at birth is about the size of a stick of butter. Baby pandas usually weigh about four ounces. The cubs usually stay with their mother for about one or two years.

Nobody knows how long pandas live in the wild. Pandas in zoos usually live up to twenty or thirty years.
