Red Pandas inhabit cool bamboo forests at altitudes of 2,000 to 4,000 meters. They live in a crescent formed by the Himalayas, Tibet, Bhutan, India, and Mynmar. They also live in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. They used to be spread widely in to China and India, but in the past years, with the population shrinking as it is, they live mainly in the crescent.
The population of Red Pandas has decreased 40% during the past 50 years. This is mainly because humans are destroying the forests where they live. As humans build more houses, furniture, even books, many of the things necessary come from Red Pandas' forest homes. Also people are becoming interested in bamboo and buying it and using it, depleteing the Red Panda's food supply. As we use more bamboo for things like chairs and plants, the Red Pandas become even more sadly pressed with the need for it. As we continue to cut down their homes and use their food, the Red Pandas have a n ever sliming chance for survival.
